Know Lake Travis

Out here the day runs on the lake: coves by noon, cliffs at sunset. Hill Country water with a Texas-sized shoreline.

Did you know

Built to tame a river

Mansfield Dam, first called Marshall Ford Dam, went up between 1937 and 1942 and was raised higher after the flood of July 1938.

Sixty-five miles of river

About 270 miles of shoreline, up to 210 feet deep and around 19,000 acres. It holds the most water of the seven Highland Lakes.

Named for Travis

The lake carries the name of William B. Travis.

A Christmas to remember

The highest level on record, 710.44 feet, came on Christmas Day 1991.

Texas's only inland ferry

Point Venture started a ferry across the lake in 1971, at the time the only inland ferry in the state.

Sunset is an event

On the cliffs above the water, the sun going down has long been met with a bell and a round of applause.
